VSNL's Enterprise WiMAX

Friday, June 01, 2007

A news worth noting: the first commercial launch of WiMAX in India. Not much information available about the tarrifs, but it would be similar to a leased line connection, around Rs. 2 Lakhs per year. Strangely although the news media is reporting it, there is no mention of it on the website. Since VSNL's been owned by Tata's now, that is a bit surprising. Or it might be just intentional!

Its up to the market now to validate this new kid on the block. Lets see how far it goes.

How are they able to offer WiMax based service? I thought the government hasn't yet come out with the spectrum policy and as I understood there isn't enough spectrum available to offer WiMax services. Does anyone have ideas?
